Passwords for
all receivers
The factory default password for all Chaparral satellite receivers
is 2, 3, 4, 5. If your receiver asks for a password, try that first.
If the factory password does not work, or if you have forgotten
a password that you put in, you will need to do a password override.
"Program is above rating
ceiling, enter password."
You may experience an onscreen message that says, "Program
is above rating ceiling, enter password." This is not a password
contained in your satellite receivers memory, rather, this comes
from the decoder. If you have forgotten your rating ceiling password,
the only way to clear it is to call the program provider whom you
purchase your pay channels from,. They can then clear it over the
air.
If you have tried the password overrides yet everything still comes
up locked, it may be necessary to master clear your receiver or
call a local satellite dealer.
Video Cipher-related problems. Problems
with your scrambled (subscription) channels.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms on most or
all of your subscription channels, you should first try is to unplug
the satellite receiver from the electrical outlet for one (1) second,
then plug it back in.
If your decoder is a standalone, or a separate box from your satellite
receiver, you only need to unplug the decoder from the electricity
and immediately plug it back in. Turn the equipment back on and
see if you are back to normal operation.
The problems that can be fixed by unplugging and plugging back
in are:
- Pictures look scrambled or roll to the right, and the Video
Cipher signal light will not come on.
- The screen is black and you may feature the message, "No
authorization."
- The screen is black or mostly black with a picture in the background.
Also, the screen is filled with letters, numbers, or symbols that
don't make sense.
- The picture is good, however, there is no sound.
- The display that tells the name and time of the movie or program
currently playing remains on the screen.
If the problem continues, or if you have lost only certain channels,
call General Instruments technical support hot line at 619-535-1717,
or contact your local satellite dealer.
Scratchy or crackly audio on
VCII (subscription) channels.
If you are experiencing problems with scratchy audio on subscription
channels that tend to get worse when the picture gets brighter,
you most likely have a problem with the receiver that can only be
repaired by a qualified bench technician. In this instance, the
video on the subscription channels is good and the sound is scratchy.
You may also notice that the non subscription channels occasionally
or constantly roll from left to right and look somewhat scrambled.
The problem is usually caused by bad components on the main PC board.
Call your local satellite dealer.
