San Jose, CA – July 30, 2007 – With great honor Alumnus Bob Taggart, founder and CEO of Chaparral Communications, delivered the convocation address to graduates of Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering on June 16 in McGaw Hall at the university in Evanston, Illinois. Taggart's commitment to the school and the communications technology industry won him the opportunity to share his speech, Find What You Love, with students and their families.

"I am very privileged to have been selected as the convocation speaker," said Taggart. San Jose-based Chaparral is a leading innovator and producer of products for satellite television for the past 26 years. "Northwestern holds a special place in my heart that I spoke about in my address. Northwestern helped me during a very difficult time of my life and has had a major impact on my success today. I can only say 'thank you.'"

Taggart received his BSME and MSME from Northwestern University in 1967 and 1968, respectively, and a Degree of Engineer from Stanford University in 1970. He serves on the advisory boards for Northwestern University's School of Engineering and Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Stanford University's Department of Mechanical Engineering. "Your selection as speaker was the result of a process involving our students and the Deans," wrote Stephen H. Carr, Dean of Undergraduate Engineering on December 18, 2006. "You were chosen on the basis of both your visionary role in communications technologies and for your commitment to Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering."
